My Best Friend

So, my best friend Mixie, (http://missmixie.blogspot.com/) posted today and was sharing some of our more awesome inclinations, so I decided to share something today! And that something is a wonderful drawing of myself and Mixie that our friend---we'll just call her Jennie---drew. I think it is rather amazing hahaha =)

Yes, that would be Mixie and I, as one person. =) Me with my curly hair, and her with her straight hair. AND to make it even better, you can see us holding A) a notebook and pen to write some literary work, because we're both writers, or B) a book and a bookmark because we are both avid readers! Make your decision! No matter which you pick though, My Mixie (yes. i am a little territorial sometimes....=P) and I  love each other super much!

I would also like to share some wisdom that Mixie and I have that everyone should follow. THRIFT SHOPPING! Okay guys, no, don't get all grossed out and say things like "EW! Other peoples clothes?" or "Those were dead people's clothes!" Because the chances of them having belonged to someone who died are very small, and even then, they weren't WEARING them when they died, SHEESH! Basically, Thrift Shopping is such a money saver, AND you can find some really awesome stuff there!! AND (again) books. Books, books, books. Books cost quite a bit of money when you think of them...I've have spent many hundreds of dollars on books throughout my life, and if you can buy a book, that would normally cost $10.55 for $0.75, that's a GREAT deal!!!

The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

SWEENEY TODD. There you have it. A wonderfully amazing musical that enthralls viewers with its musical numbers, violence, romance, and some pretty sexy actors. While there have been MANY adaptions [spell check is telling me I can't pluralize adaption....why?] of the Broadway musical, none surpass the sexiness that is Johnny Depp:

While the movie adaption (2007) isn't my favorite MUSIC-wise---as in there aren't as many songs  in it, including The Ballad of Sweeney Todd, the "theme song", in a sense---it is by far the most enthralling, and the easiest accessed. While stage productions can be watched on sites such as YouTube, they  aren't in as good as quality, nor do any other film adaptions [shut up spell check, I'm using the word "adaptions"] have such strikingly gorgeous Todds, they do fill a certain void when the 2007 version can't be accessed.

So, if you have NOT seen Sweeney Todd, GO AND SEE IT NOW!! (i warn you though, I may be someone who enjoys this kind of gruesome, bloody, gory movie, but you may not be...not for the squeamish or weak of hear! =D)

Earth's Children Series

So, my readers, I feel it is my duty, as an avid reader of books, that I introduce you to, if you don't know it already, an amazing piece of literary work: the Earth's Children Series by Jean M. Auel.

So, all 6 of these books are part of the AMAZING Earth's Children series by Jean M. Auel. They're the story of the incredibly strong, brave, confidant heroin Ayla. Ayla is a Cro-Magnon living in prehistoric Europe before the extinction of the Neanderthals. Now, I'm not going to give away what happens in these books, because that would be DEADLY evil, but I will say that they're, BY FAR the best series I've come across since Harry Potter---though the first few were published before Harry Potter was even thought of by the great Jo Rowling. I would say, next to Harry Potter, this is my FAVORITE series. It is awesome. The amount of research that Jean M. Auel went through, and the countless months she spent compiling her knowledge to create such a realistic plot, is amazing. Her descriptions are beautifully written and give you a PERFECT peak into the Upper Paleolithic era, and though there may be one or two irritating things (such as grammar, or odd, unrealistic abilities) the overall AMAZINGNEESS of these books overrides those minor irritations. I'm quite happy to say that, though she may have known about the series, and planned on reading it at some point, my dear friend Mixie has now been reeled into this thrilling tale, and I hope that many of you, my dear readers, will too!!

IMPORTANT NOTE!!!!!!!

The final book of this series, The Land of Painted Caves will be published on March 29, 2011, so that's coming up!!! I plan on buying AS SOON AS I CAN! and I hope that those of you, who find you love this series just as much as I do, will relish in the fact that you don't have to sit around waiting for months (or in this case YEARS) for the next installation to come!

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

So, I have a fascination with Heath Ledger



because he is rather gorgeous...and I think it's terrible that he died =(

But, in honor of him, I started watching The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus,



the last movie that he made (GRANTED I started last night, and then the whole tsunami thing interrupted, so I'm about to resume watching it). Unfortunately, Heath died about 1/3 of the way through filming, and so his critical role was taken up by a cornucopia of actors...it almost became like a tribute, and an honor to finish the role for Heath.

Japan Earthquake

Oh my god. So, I'm typing, as I'm watching the news, of the massive earthquake that hit off the coast of japan. An 8.9 magnitude earthquake Japan, and there is now a tsunami warning. I'm watching live as the waves flood in over hundreds of acres of land, drowning houses and cars and airports. This is terrible. I really don't want this to be a repeat of Indonesia. God, this is just heart wrenching. There have been 5 major aftershocks, fires, waves of 13 ft high...Send your prays/hopes/strength, whatever you feel fit to send to all those in Japan and possibly in Hawaii because there's a possibility of the tsunami waves reaching Hawaii....I'm sending all my strength to all those in Japan or anywhere it hits with enough force to cause harm, especially the family that I have in both Japan and Hawaii

Lent

So, I was off perusing my best friend, Mixie's blog (ALL OF YOU SHOULD GO CHECK IT OUT! http://missmixie.blogspot.com/) and she had a post about Lent, so I decided, hey, why not share what I'm giving up for Lent?


So, first of all, for those of you who may not know, Lent is a period of 40 weekdays from Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday. A period of penitence for Christians before Easter. And it is a common practice for Christians to give something up/do something for the 40 day period. Also you don't eat meat on Ash Wednesday or any Friday in Lent (which isn't too hard for me since I'm a vegetarian).


So this year for lent I have decided that I will be giving up television. 
                                                    
Giving up television is going to be hard for me, but I'm tired of giving up soda every year and want to be a little more active about what I'm giving up. I will, however, allow myself to watch movies (a little bit of cheating, but hey, what can I say, I like movies =p)


The second thing I'm doing is I'm not going to swear. period. Which is VERY difficult for me, because I say f*** or s*** of d*** every few minutes generally.


                                 
Every time that I swear I'm going to put a bit of money in a "Rice Bowl" 
                                                                  
And, while I'm not going to use an actual rice bowl, nor am I going to give it to the organization that the Rice Bowl centers itself around, the effect is generally the same. 


When I DO flub and swear, the money that I donate will, most likely, go to the ASPCA, my favorite charity =).
